Franker (franker.app)
Franker ("the app," "we," "us") is a hot dog review and discovery app operated by The Food in My Beard ("we," "us," "our"). This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to the Franker mobile app and the franker.app website.
We keep this simple and honest: we collect what we need to run a review app, we don't sell your data, and you can delete your account and content at any time.
What we collect
Account information. When you create an account we collect your email address and the username you choose. You may optionally add a home city and an avatar photo to your profile.
Content you create. Reviews, ratings, tasting notes, photos you attach to reviews, locations and hot dogs you add to the directory, likes, follows, and (if you are a verified location owner) responses to reviews and location photos. This content is the point of the app — most of it is publicly visible to other users by design.
Technical information. Like nearly all apps, our infrastructure processes basic technical data needed to operate the service — such as device type, app version, IP address, and error logs. We use this to keep the app working, secure, and free of abuse. We do not currently run third-party analytics or advertising trackers in the app.
How we use your information
- To operate the app: authenticate you, store and display your reviews and photos, calculate ratings, power search and leaderboards, and award badges.
- To send transactional email: account confirmation and, shortly after you join, a one-time welcome email with community links. You can opt out of non-essential email via the unsubscribe link in any such message.
- To moderate: our moderation tools use account and content information to review flagged content, enforce our community rules, and act on reports.
- To communicate about the service when necessary (for example, important changes to these policies).
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your content or personal information for third-party advertising.
Where your information lives (service providers)
We use a small number of service providers to run Franker. Your information is processed by:
- Supabase — our database, authentication, and photo storage provider. Your account data, content, and photos are stored here.
- Resend — our transactional email provider, used to send account and welcome emails to the address you provide.
- Google Maps — used to display maps and location features. When map features load, Google processes technical data (such as your IP address) under its own privacy policy.
- Vercel — hosts the franker.app website.
If you choose to join our newsletter, that signup happens separately through Kit under its own terms — joining Franker never automatically subscribes you to the newsletter.
These providers process data on our behalf to run the service; they are not permitted to use it for their own advertising purposes.
What's public
Franker is a community review app. Your username, avatar, home city (if provided), reviews, ratings, photos, locations and dogs you add, badges, leaderboard placement, follows, and likes are visible to other users. Your email address is never publicly displayed.
Account deletion & your choices
- Delete your account at any time from within the app (Profile → Settings → Delete Account). Deleting your account removes your profile and personal information from the service, and your reviews and photos are deleted along with your account.
- Edit or delete your own reviews and photos at any time in the app.
- Email opt-out: unsubscribe from non-essential email using the link in any such email.
- You may contact us at thefoodinmybeard@gmail.com with any privacy question or request, including requesting a copy or deletion of your data.
Children
Franker is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us at thefoodinmybeard@gmail.com and we will delete it.
Data retention
We keep your information while your account is active. When you delete your account, associated personal data is deleted from the live service; residual copies may persist briefly in backups before being purged in the normal backup cycle.
Security
We use reputable infrastructure providers and standard security practices (encrypted connections, access controls, row-level security on our database). No online service can guarantee perfect security, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes (for example, if we ever add analytics or advertising), we will update this page and adjust the "last updated" date, and where appropriate notify you in the app or by email.
